Pam

Pam is on the dock in front of the judge
The prosecutor is reeding out the plaint
The accusations are grave
They accused her of shooting a man

Her friend Stan had planned to rob the bank
He said: “Babe, it’s a slam dunk”
Pam just should drive the getaway car
But this day everything went wrong

When Stan came out of the bank
A watchman followed him and drew his gun
She feared for Stan and from the rear bench seat
She took the shotgun and shot the man down

   “Oh, high court,
Is it a crime to guard the one you love from the bottom of your heart
   Judge, oh judge,
All that I’ve done I did out of love”

Stan was well known in the neighbourhood
For selling drugs and for selling stolen goods
When she met Stan, she still went to school
And she fell in love and they became a couple

Stan promised her to cease from fencing
And to end selling drugs
He said Babe: “I will end these things,
As soon as I got a job”

   Judge, oh judge,
Is it a crime to trust someone from the bottom of your heart
   Judge, oh judge,
All that I’ve done I did for him and out of love

Stan got no job and he hadn’t searched for one
He enlarged his illegal deals instead
Pam dropped out of school and ran away from home
And they lived together in an old van

Before long they began to rob
Gas stations, diners and small shops
Most of the time she kept cave
While Stan followed through his plans

Stan said: “Babe, it’s all okay,
You don’t need to have a bad conscience
All these shops, that we rob
Are well insured and got no financial loss

   “Judge, oh judge,
You can’t put me to jail for standing by the man she I love
   Judge, oh judge,
All that I’ve done I did out of love”

Then one day, Stan said:
“Babe, that’s all odds and ends,
One big coup is what we need
And then we get our own suite

There`s a small bank at the edge of the town
Babe, it’s a slam dunk
The getaway car, you just have to drive
This one coup and we’ll be set for life”

   “Oh, high court,
Is it a crime to trust someone from the bottom of your heart
   Judge, oh judge,
All that I’ve done I did for him and out of love”

This is my story and these are the facts
That put the shotgun into my hands
And you can see, these are the circumstances
That brought that man to death

It is quiet in the court of law
And the judge is looking unexpressivly at her
“Lifetime in jail”, the judge declared
And he’s bashing down his gavel

   “Judge, please judge,
You can’t put someone to jail for loving someone
   Judge, oh judge,
All that I’ve done I did out of love”
