Beyond the horizon
And they left their home and fled from the war
Fled from atrocities and death
And they set sail and fled from the war
Sailed farther than man ever sailed before
Searching for a place where they could live
Free and in peace
Searching for a land for their children to live
Without any fears
And they sailed month after month while two stars at the sky
Were showing them their way night by night
They defied storms and rain, lightning and hail
And metres high waves and blazing heat
They fought against horrible ogres
Living in the deepness of the sea
They were searching for a place where they could live
Free and in peace
Searching for a land for their children to live
Without any fears
They defied hunger and thirst and disease
Holding tight to their dream
After they had sailed for ever and a day
They got into a vast bank of fog
Three weeks they couldn’t see their hands in front of their faces
Then the fog cleared and they saw a seaboard
Did they find a place where they could live
Free and in peace
Did they find a land for their children to live
Without any fears
And they stood at the rail and they stared at the coast
Silently and with their hearts full of hope
Warily they went ashore and explored the land
An uninhabited, green island they found
There were fruitful soils, drinking water and hunting grounds
And they settled down
Finally they found a place to live
Free and in peace
They found a land for their children to live
Without any fears
And they established a community of democracy
Of brotherhood, freedom and equality
On that island they lived happily ever after –
Beyond the horizon, hidden by the fog
