Blood brothers

There are the memories of the small town where I grew up
Those streets with their houses and front yards I hated so much
Behind the curtains and white washed fronts
Teachers and fathers forced their views on us dated and square
There was boredom and mediocrity, there was narrowness
There was not enough air to breathe.

We were in our teens and burst out of school
Escaped from our homes to get away from those fools.
Most of the time we spent outside the door,
Sometimes at the bus stop seeking shelter from the cold.
A little conspiring gang against this narrow-minded world
Talking about getting out of this hole.

Blood brothers with a vow to be bound forever
And we swore never to live like our parents did
We swore to defend our ideals together
And we promised we’d never forsake our dreams.

They preached about charity in packed churches every Sunday
But everything revolved round money and possession in the end.
And there were TV pictures of poverty and grief
And pictures of starving children stirred us up.
A little conspiring gang against the injustice in this world
There was nothing but indifference around us.

There was the matter with the wars on this earth
Our country seemed to be involved in every armed conflict in this world.
There were the reports about arms traffic
And pictures of soldiers killed in action stirred us up.
A little conspiring gang, fighting for freedom and peace
There was nothing but ignorance around us.

Blood brothers with a vow to stick together
And we swore we’d never go along with this game.
We swore to defend our ideals forever
And we promised we’d never forsake our dreams.

Then we grew older and we left school
One by one got a job and became family men.
We met less often, it wasn’t the same anymore
More and more our talks revolved round new cars and our jobs
Only you seemed to stick to your principles
and one day you got out of this hole
In the end even you failed because of this life.

Me too I took a job, working in a factory,
Me and Kathy married and we got a boy.
Little by little my dreams faded away
I became more and more numb and Kathy left me one day,
Sometimes there was a yearning for something I had lost,
Then I went to our bus stop and followed my dreams down.

Blood brothers with a vow to be bound forever
And we swore we’d never lose sight of our aims.
Blood brothers with a vow to stick together
And we promised we’d never forsake our dreams.
