Behind a mask (Part 2 )
She sits in a corner like paralysed
Her facial expression like petrified
She’s hiding herself behind a mask
Nobody sees, nobody knows what happens inside.
Hiding her feelings behind flickering eyes
Hiding her fears behind a paranoid smile
She’s hiding herself behind a mask
Nobody sees, nobody knows the emptiness inside.
She catches a glimpse of a girl on the street outside
There are eyes which have seen too much for the eyes of a child
Memories of a childhood that ended too soon
Are rising up and clasping her soul
Just a fleeting glimpse but the mask is threatening to tear apart
Tears rising up – it’s hurting too much
She’s fleeing back into her cocoon behind the wall
Where nothing reaches her and where there’s no way out
